Bramble Product Care and Maintenance Guide

THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING BRAMBLE PRODUCT. WE HOPE THAT YOU ENJOY IT FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.

Our pieces are handmade to last a lifetime, using the highest quality and sustainable materials. Most of our furniture is made of solid mahogany.
All woods can expand and contract due to changes in temperature and humidity, caused by weather conditions or the use of heating and air conditioning.
While all furniture made from wood will change slightly over time, the following are a few general instructions that will keep your furniture looking its best.

Wood Furniture

  • Always use coasters and placemats on all finished surfaces.
  • To give the piece additional luster you can use a furniture wax of a good quality aerosol furniture polish.
  • Dust regularly using dry lint-free cloth.
  • In case of a spill, use damp cloth and natural non-chemical soap. Wipe in the direction of the grains.
  • Dry with a soft clean cloth to prevent water marks and permanent spotting.
  • For a deeper cleaning, use mild soap and warm water, rinse and wipe dry.

Natural Rattan Furniture

Regular Cleaning with a Vacuum or Feather Duster

  • Dust and debris can settle into the crevices of rattan furniture, dulling its appearance. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment on a low setting to gently remove dust from all surfaces, including between the weaves. Alternatively, a feather duster can help quickly sweep dust away without disturbing the finish. Dusting regularly, once every week or two, will keep the rattan looking its best.

Avoid High Humidity and Direct Sunlight

  • Rattan is sensitive to both moisture and sunlight. Place your furniture away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or drying out of the material. Avoid high humidity areas as well, as moisture can cause the rattan to swell or warp. Keeping it in a well-ventilated area helps preserve its natural beauty.

Gentle Spot Cleaning

  • For minor stains, use a soft, dry brush (such as a clean paintbrush) to lift dirt gently. For deeper cleaning, moisten a cloth with warm, soapy water (use mild soap only) and carefully dab the area without soaking the material. Avoid rubbing, as rattan can absorb moisture. Afterward, dry with a clean cloth to prevent water damage.

Avoid Harsh Cleaners and Abrasives

  • Strong cleaners and abrasive materials can damage the finish. Avoid household cleaners, alcohol-based products, or any polish. If cleaning is necessary, mild soap diluted in water works well. Never use abrasive pads or brushes, which can scratch and damage the rattan.

Handle with Care

  • While sturdy, rattan benefits from gentle handling. Avoid placing heavy items on it, as excessive weight can strain the fibers and damage joints. Always lift rather than drag the furniture to prevent scratching or weakening.

Indoor Use Recommended

  • Natural rattan is best suited for indoor or covered areas. While some protection is provided, exposure to rain or outdoor elements may damage both the rattan and its finish.

Butcher Block Care Instructions

Detailed instructions on how to care for and maintain your butcher block, ensuring its longevity and functionality.

Daily Cleaning

  • After each use, wipe the butcher block with a soft cloth or sponge dampened with warm, soapy water. Avoid soaking the wood or using excessive water, which can lead to warping, cracking, or mold. Immediately dry with a clean towel.

Disinfecting the Surface

  • For added sanitation, disinfect the surface using food-safe methods:

White Vinegar: Wipe with undiluted vinegar, let sit, then wipe dry.
Lemon Juice & Salt: Sprinkle salt, scrub with half a lemon to remove stains and odors.
Hydrogen Peroxide: Use a 3% solution, spray lightly, let sit briefly, then wipe clean.

Monthly Oiling

  • To prevent dryness and cracking, apply a food-safe mineral oil once a month or more often in dry climates. Rub the oil with a clean cloth, covering all areas. Let it sit to absorb, then wipe off excess for a smooth finish.

Conditioning with Wax

  • Apply a beeswax or butcher block conditioner every few months. After oiling, spread a thin layer of wax, let it sit, then buff with a cloth for a polished, moisture-repellent finish.

Removing Stains and Odors

  • For stains and odors:

Salt and Lemon: Sprinkle salt, rub with lemon to lift stains and neutralize odors.
Baking Soda Paste: Apply a paste of baking soda and water, let sit, scrub gently, then rinse.

Repairing Scratches and Dents

  • Lightly sand scratches with fine-grit sandpaper along the grain, then reapply oil or wax. For minor dents, cover with a damp cloth and press with a warm iron to raise the wood fibers.

Avoiding Damage from Heat and Water

  • Keep hot pots and pans off the butcher block, using a trivet or hot pad instead. Avoid leaving wet items on the surface, as prolonged moisture can cause warping or mold.

Use a Cutting Board for Heavy Chopping

  • Although butcher blocks are durable, use a separate cutting board for frequent heavy chopping to preserve the smooth surface and extend its lifespan.

Linen Wrapped Products

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your Bramble linen-wrapped furniture with factory-applied water-repellent treatment, please follow these care instructions:

General Maintenance

  • General Care
    • Regular Dusting: Use a soft, dry cloth or a handheld vacuum with a brush attachment to gently remove dust from the linen surface. Avoid pressing too hard to prevent fabric damage.
    Avoid Direct Sunlight
    • Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the linen to fade or weaken over time. Position your furniture away from windows or use curtains to limit UV exposure.
    Immediate Spill Management
    • For minor spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing, as this can spread the stain and damage the fabric fibers.
    Cleaning and Maintenance
    Mild Cleaning Solutions
    • If deeper cleaning is necessary, prepare a mild soap solution by mixing a small amount of gentle liquid soap with warm water. Dampen a soft cloth with the solution and gently blot the affected area. After cleaning, allow the area to air dry completely. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach, as they can damage the linen fabric.
    Reapplying Water-Repellent Treatment
    • Over time, the factory-applied water-repellent treatment may diminish. Consider reapplying a water-repellent fabric spray as needed, following the manufacturer's instructions. Always test the spray on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it does not cause discoloration.
    • Protective Measures: In high-traffic areas, use protective covers when the furniture is not in use to prevent dust and dirt accumulation. This practice helps in maintaining the fabric's appearance and cleanliness.
    • Humidity Control: Linen can absorb moisture from the air, which may lead to mildew or mold. Keep your furniture in a well-ventilated, dry area to prevent such issues.
    Long-Term Care
    • Professional Cleaning: For stubborn stains or comprehensive cleaning, consider professional services that specialize in treating water-repellent linen furniture. Professional cleaners can effectively clean the fabric while preserving the water-repellent properties.

By adhering to these care guidelines, you can ensure that your Bramble linen-wrapped furniture remains in excellent condition for years to come.

Upholstery

Care Instructions for Upholstered Furniture

Upholstered furniture requires regular care to maintain its appearance, comfort, and durability. Follow these guidelines to keep your upholstery in excellent condition.

General Maintenance

  • Vacuum Regularly
    • Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush or upholstery attachment to remove dust, crumbs, and debris. Pay special attention to seams, crevices, and under cushions.
    Fluff and Rotate Cushions
    • Rotate and fluff cushions weekly to ensure even wear and maintain their shape.
    Avoid Direct Sunlight
    • Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fabric to fade or weaken. Position furniture away from direct sunlight or use curtains/blinds to protect it.

    Spot Cleaning

    Blot Spills Immediately
    • Use a clean, dry cloth to blot (not rub) spills. Rubbing can spread the stain and damage the fibers.
    Test Cleaning Solution
    • Always test cleaning products on an inconspicuous area first to ensure they don't damage the fabric or cause discoloration.
    Mild Soap and Water
    • For water-safe fabrics, mix a small amount of mild soap with lukewarm water. Gently dab the stain with a clean cloth, then blot with a dry towel to remove moisture.
    Avoid Harsh Cleaners
    • Do not use bleach, ammonia, or strong detergents, as these can damage fabric fibers and colors.
    Dealing with Odors
    Vacuum with Baking Soda
    • Sprinkle baking soda over the upholstery, let it sit for 15–30 minutes, and then vacuum it off to neutralize odors.
    Ventilate
    • Allow furniture to air out in a well-ventilated area to eliminate trapped smells.
    Deep Cleaning
    Professional Cleaning
    • Schedule professional cleaning every 12–18 months to remove deep-seated dirt and extend the life of your furniture.
    Steam Cleaning
    • For certain fabrics, use a steam cleaner following the manufacturer’s guidelines. Avoid excessive moisture that could lead to mold or mildew.

Leather

Avoid Harsh Chemicals
  • Do not use alcohol, ammonia, bleach, or harsh cleaning agents, as they can damage the leather's finish.
Conditioning
  • Condition Every 6–12 Months
Use a leather conditioner to moisturize the material and prevent it from drying and cracking. Apply sparingly, following the product instructions.
Test Before Use
  • Always test conditioners or cleaners on an inconspicuous area to ensure they do not discolor or damage the leather

Metal Items

General Maintenance

Clean Regularly
  • Wipe down the furniture with a soft cloth and a mild soapy water solution to remove dust and grime. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly with a soft towel to prevent water spots or rust.
